WE BELIEVE IN SUSTAINABILITY

“The decisions you make today will determine the stories you tell tomorrow”

Craig Groeschel

At Creation, we want to tell stories of sustainability; how our investment decisions contribute to a sustainable world. Our aim to provide our investors with attractive risk-adjusted returns is interdependent on us having a positive socio-economic impact.

To us, ‘ESG factors’ is not just a buzzword, but rather an opportunity to realign our investment strategy to a more environmentally, socially conscious one. We believe sustainable investing offers long term sustainable returns and market resilience, thus, for every investment, we look to widely accepted principles of responsible investments as guidelines. We, therefore, consider investments based on their environmental impact, social impact, and good governance (ESG).

These criteria are as important to us as is return, cost, and risk. Hence, to offer attractive returns, we strategically focus on making investments that offer sustainability – now and in the future.

Our Approach

Creation has adopted an environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) framework which has become an integrated part of Creation’s ethos, investment decisions and management.

Not only does Creation embrace the adoption of an ESG framework and the execution thereof, but it is also a requirement from our investors and flows to our investees.

At Creation Capital, we believe in engaging with investees and encouraging them to incorporate ESG factors in their operations.

We do not believe in negative screening and will rather work alongside investees, where there is a need for improvement due to an investment not fully meeting our ESG criteria, to encourage a road toward sustainability. In doing so, we believe we can inspire positive change for people and planet as opposed to excluding or disposing of a certain investment outright, which eliminates our positive influence. Only, if there is no evidence that these investees are putting in effort to incorporate ESG principles in their operations for more sustainability, will we then consider placing them on our exclusion list.

In addition, we aim to integrate local development priorities with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and as such our selected primary SGDs were considered on the basis of local (South African environment) priorities which are material to the Creation investment philosophy. This allows us to track factors that are most important to achieve impact on the continent. These priorities are correlated to the SDGs to ensure continued focus on both local and global development priorities.

We care

South Africa is a country with significant resources and opportunities and at Creation Capital we are committed to play our part in developing the potential of our people and country. We believe that Human Capital development will determine the course of history and the success of nations.

That is why our business is focussed on empowering businesses to grow and contribute to their various stakeholders: shareholders, employees, customers, government and the country at large.

We do not believe that people should be beneficiaries of charity but that we need to provide opportunities for them to develop their skills and abilities to find employment or start their own businesses.

POPUP offers a number of skills programmes accredited by 11 SETAs in South Africa. They have trained more than 8500 people up to the end of 2020 and are implementing strategies to increase this number significantly. They currently have training centres in five cities in South Africa and are actively involved in finding employment for their learners either through placements with companies or the provision of learnerships at host employers

In POPUP we have found an organisation that values the same culture and we are looking forward to having a significant impact in the future of our country together with them.
