George has more than 20 years of experience in the financial and banking industry, with extensive expertise in risk, asset liability management, trading models, and simulations. His area of specialisation include fixed income, portfolio valuation, yield curve construction, long-term foreign exchange, and fixed income derivatives.
His career began as a trainee dealer at Absa Bank, where he traded money market instruments and managed the liquid asset portfolio. He later became Head of the Fixed Income Derivatives team, managing a portfolio exposure of approximately R200 billion, including derivatives, bonds (ZAR and USD), and long-term asset-liability management (ALM) positions. George was also a permanent member of the Assets and Liability Committee for Absa Commercial and Merchant Bank. He also successfully implemented Basel requirements for the bank relating to the interest rate, liquidity, and counterparty credit risk of the portfolios.
Beyond his corporate experience, George has been involved in training financial institutions and banking professionals globally, delivering workshops on asset liability management and risk modelling. He has worked with organisations such as Nedbank Africa, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) Africa, the National Development Bank of Botswana, Barclays Africa, UBank, the Israeli Financial Institute, and Arab Bank.
His training sessions have been attended by CEOs, CFOs, and Managing Directors, helping them optimise balance sheets within risk frameworks to maximise returns.
